Jan. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Despite a 2.5% increase in VAT, online footwear retailers don’t seem to have passed this onto consumers, with most prices so far either remaining the same, or being reduced from what they were at the end of 2010, According to BestShoePrices.com

“We monitor pricing from the major UK footwear retailers daily, and have so far seen very few increases as a result of the VAT change” said Carl Fraser, Managing Director of Totally Commerce Ltd, owners of BestShoePrices.com. “Obviously January is the peak sales time and many retailers are using this as a method of clearing end of line stock. However, pricing on most key styles has either stayed the same or been reduced”.

“The next few weeks should give a clearer indication as to whether retailers will pass on the VAT increase to their customers.” said Fraser. “Once the traditional sales come to an end, pricing should start to stabilise, but in a market as competitive as footwear, it is likely that most retailers will absorb the VAT increase.”
