Stepinac High School Rallies for "Coaches for Cancer"

Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York, will once again support "Coaches vs. Cancer" to raise money for the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer.

Jan. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- White Plains, NY  Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, New York,  will once again support Coaches vs. Cancer, a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

This year, the school is designating Friday, February 11 as Coaches vs. Cancer night when the Stepinac Crusaders basketball team plays triple header games against Cardinal Hayes at 7 PM at Stepinac, 950 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains.

Last year, Stepinac raised about $8,000 for the American Cancer Society in the names of George Kehayas, former member of  Stepinac’s Board of Trustees and Joe O’Grady, Stepinac baseball coach, who had lost their battles to cancer. “These were great friends of Stepinac,” said Coach Mike O’Donnell. “That’s why the Stepinac community is a strong supporter of Coaches for Cancer to help raise funds to continue the fight against this terrible disease.”

Like last year, the admission price will be increased $1 for each game and Stepinac will also donate $2 per person who attends.

In addition, for a $5 donation, the Stepinac students will be permitted to dress down all day. To show support for the cause,  Stepinac coaches will wear shirts and ties with sneakers all day.

Parents have been invited to sponsor a Stepinac coach of their choice (from all sports teams at the school). Donations, payable to the American Cancer Society, can be mailed to Coaches vs. Cancer, Stepinac High School, 950 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains.
