Jan. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- On December 17, 2010 Upper Gwynedd Township officials, Montgomery County officials, and Merck & Co. Inc. representatives dedicated the road with a ribbon cutting ceremony.  Leonard Perrone, township manager, acknowledged “Joe DeSantis, Jack Mitchell, and Steve Giampaolo for their excellent engineering work on the project.”

Upper Gwynedd Township retained McMahon, as lead consultant, to complete the final design and preparation of the construction plans and specifications for this $6.7 million dollar roadway reconstruction project that was financed in part by a private/public partnership between Montgomery County (county stimulus funds), the township and Merck & Co, Inc.  The purpose of the project was to mitigate traffic congestion caused by the constriction of Sumneytown Pike underneath the CSX railroad bridge and the impact of this constriction on the adjacent intersections.  The section of roadway between Allentown Road and West Point Pike included full-depth pavement reconstruction, replacement of the CSX railroad bridge over Sumneytown, and widening of 1,500 feet of roadway to a five lane cross section.  The project included intersection operational improvements at Sumneytown Pike and West Point Pike/Church Road to reduce the traffic congestion and facilitate the movement of traffic in both the eastbound and westbound directions.  Improvements included widening for turning lanes and signal upgrades.  The remaining 3,500 feet of roadway included improvements to existing traffic signals, roadway base repair, new sidewalks, ADA compliant curb ramps, minor widening, drainage installation and underground utility replacements. The project also included environmental permitting.

McMahon Associates’ mid-Atlantic offices are located in Fort Washington (corporate headquarters), Exton, Camp Hill, and Pittsburgh, PA; Yardville, NJ; and Bowie, MD, which combined employ 85 of the company’s 120 full-time employees.  The firm also has two offices in Florida and two in Massachusetts.  McMahon’s primary services include transportation planning/traffic studies, expert witness testimony, land survey, traffic signal design and permitting, highway design and permitting, bridge design, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Geographic Information Systems, and construction services for both public and private clients.   For more information, please contact Joseph J.
