Local Area Formation Commission to Vote on East Area One Annexation at January 19 Meeting

Jan. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- SANTA PAULA, CALIF.--The Local Area Formation Commission (LAFCo) will meet Wednesday, January 19 to vote on annexation and incorporation of 541 acres into the city of Santa Paula. Voters approved the annexation and development of the land by passing Measure G on June 3, 2008. The ballot measure passed by 82 percent of voters.

   Limoneira Company owns the property, known as East Area One. "The project is anticipated to create millions of dollars of much needed tax revenue for Santa Paula and hundreds of jobs," says Harold Edwards, Limoneira CEO. "It will bring new homes, retail and commercial space, new schools, new police and fire stations, athletic fields, parks, hiking trails, a civic center and approximately 79 acres of designated open space. Another 55 acres will be set aside as an agricultural preserve."

   Edwards is asking residents to come to the meeting to show their support for the project. "By passing Measure G, Santa Paula residents understood the need for additional affordable housing and a stronger business base to bring in tax revenue to the city," says Edwards. "We listened carefully to Santa Paula residents and created a sustainable, master-planned community where they can live, work and play locally."

   Edward says Limoneira will now follow the Ventura LAFCo process so that the company can begin development.
