Think only boys are interested in transportation themes?  Try creating your decorative vehicles in pairs, with one of the pair having more ‘girly’ touches,  including varying colors and adding embellishments, such as glitter or ribbon. Fun ideas for age 4-7 birthday parties

Party Theme:  Adventure Time!   

Decorations:  wagons, bikes, scooters, boats, trains, cars, rockets, planes, motorbikes, etc.

Warm-up Game: How would I travel on an Adventure?
Like charades, invite children, one at a time, to show/act out their favorite way to    travel on wheels, water or in the air.  Remind each young player to use just their body and sound effects, no words, while the rest of the group guesses what kind of mode of transport they are.

With very young children, you could put pictures of different types of transportation in a hat and they could ‘choose’ which vehicle to be that way, which might help encourage more variety.  Another method if children are shy or need some inspiration, is for you to call out a form of transportation and invite the children to be the vehicle with their bodies and with vocalizing/sound effects.  

Kid’s love to move, express themselves, get down on the floor and play - this is sure to be a hit!

   What animals do you see? What kinds of plants do you see?
   Now if you all had your own scooter, show me how you would ride it.

Appreciation Circle for Birthday Child
Sit in a circle and invite each guest to tell the birthday child something they love and appreciate about them. Mom – take notes, you’ll want to remember what everyone said! You could even have the children create a birthday card together as a simple craft and you could write down their words in the homemade card as a keepsake for your child.

Craft: Make a Scooter
What you’ll need:
   Markers and stickers for decoration
   Construction paper cut-outs of scooter parts, including:
   Main Handle Bar
   Two Black Handle Bar Ends
   Neck
   Platform
   Two Wheels

The craft is a great take home item.  Kids will enjoy showing it to their families and sharing with them about the fun of the adventure birthday party and about the places they want to explore.

If you are creating goodie bags for children to bring home, as well, you could include items for a trip:  toy compass & binoculars, a healthy granola snack (homemade or store bought). A nicer gift might be a magnifying glass, if you want to stick with one simple gift. The possibilities are as wide open as your imagination. Want to recycle? Small glass baby food jars are great for holding bugs for children adventuring in the wilds of their backyard.  Teach the children to use a little tin foil and yarn to create an appropriate top, punching small holes with a fork or a pencil (with help from an adult for younger children).

Show and Tell: Where are you going to travel to on your Scooter?
Sit in a circle and invite children to show their Scooter craft and then tell where they would like to go on their next adventure.
