Free, One-Week Memberships at Conejo, Simi Area YMCAs

Jan. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF.--Residents in Conejo and Simi valleys and Moorpark can sign up for a free, one-week, full-use YMCA membership at local YMCAs. Free membership takes place the last week in January at the Miller Family YMCA in Newbury Park, the Conejo Valley YMCA and the Simi Family YMCA. Residents can participate in workout classes, swim in the Ys' heated indoor pools and attend youth classes.

                     "The YMCA has advantages that other health and wellness facilities do not," says Katie Beck, executive director at the Miller Y. "At the YMCA, you can lose weight, tone up, reduce stress, spend time with your family, make friends, provide value-based activities for your children and set healthy lifestyle goals for the New Year."     

                     The free membership is for January 24 through 28. The Miller YMCA membership goes through January 30. On January 29, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Conejo Valley YMCA will host local health and wellness professionals who will discuss their services. YMCA staff will also be on hand to provide tours of the facility. “Joining the Y can be the greatest value for your family's health and well-being,” says Daniel Jaeger, executive director of the Simi Valley Y.

   The Ys are offering special fitness and nutrition programs to start the New Year. "People tend to exercise less and eat more during winter," says Patrick Yarrow, Conejo Valley YMCA associate executive director. "January is the best time to go against that trend and begin healthy habits."
