Follow on Google News | Systems Labelling Source 100% Renewable EnergyStephen Lloyd of Systems Labelling Limited discusses the company's commitment to the environment with recent moves towards incorporating green technologies in its production.
By: Stephen Lloyd Sourcing electricity from a renewable source demonstrates the knowledge, attitude and intentions towards recycling by the countries largest independent label printer. Strict government targets on the reduction of carbon emissions and greenhouse gases are well documented however some companies are "grasping the nettle" far more readily than others. Systems Labelling Managing Director Gwyn Bouch comments "many organisations pay lip service to environmental issues but we do really walk the walk when it comes to recycling." He continues, "Any by product of our production process that can be recycled, is recycled. From ink rags to waste film, from pallets to rubber plates we find a home for waste. So when the opportunity to source renewable electricity arose, we worked closely with ScottishPower to assess our organisation." Renewable source electricity is generated from sources of energy other than fossil fuel. This includes (but is not limited to) wind energy, hydro power, tidal power, wave energy, municipal and industrial wastes and photovoltaics. These sources of electricity do not produce the same levels of harmful carbon dioxide emissions as electricity produced by coal or gas fired power stations. ScottishPower is part of the Iberdrola Group, the world’s biggest producer of renewable energy. Through ScottishPower, Iberdrola plan to invest €4.8 billion in the United Kingdom over the period 2010-2012, two-thirds of which is earmarked for wind power, smart grid and distribution networks. This support is underlined by continued commitment to the development of carbon capture and storage (CCS), a new technology in which removes almost all CO2 emitted from fossil fuel power stations during the generation of electricity. Furthermore, ScottishPower Renewables is currently the UK's largest developer of onshore windfarms with over 30 windfarms fully operational, under construction or in planning.
