PRLog - Jan. 4, 2011 - Your life can be difficult when you have blurry eyesight. It can be more stressful to find that it can be a symptom of an illness or a serious eye health problem. Causes of blurred vision are many and whatever the cause is, vision changes should never be ignored because they can get worse and significantly impact the quality of your life.

Blurred vision is the loss of sharpness of vision and the inability to see small details. Get your eyes examined by medical professional if you find that there are changes in vision, blurriness, blind spots, halos around lights, or dimness of vision.  Such eye problems might be the result of an eye disease, aging, eye injury, or health problem like diabetes.

The common causes of blurred vision are as follow :

1. Presbyopia
A person who are suffering from presbyopia has a difficulty to see objects that are close. This condition is common in the elderly.

2. Cataracts
One of the causes of blurred vision that is commonly experienced by the elderly is cataracts. This condition may also result cloudiness on the eye’s lens, poor night vision, halos around lights and light sensitivity.

3. Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease where fluid pressure inside the eye increases causing irreversible damage to the optic nerve, blurred vision and loss of vision.

4. Macular degeneration
It is a condition that destroys your sharp, central vision. You need central vision to see objects clearly and to do tasks such as reading and driving.

5. Eye infections
Many eye infections, inflammation or injury can also change vision.

6. Eye floaters
Floaters are little "cobwebs" or specks that float about in your field of vision. They are small, dark, shadowy shapes that can look like spots, thread-like strands, or squiggly lines. Floaters occur when the vitreous, a gel-like substance that fills about 80 percent of the eye and helps it maintain a round shape, slowly shrinks, which in most cases is not sight-threatening and requires no treatment.

7. Migraine
People with ocular migraines can have a variety of visual disturbances. Typically you will see a small, enlarging blind spot in your central vision with bright, flickering lights or a shimmering zig-zag line inside the blind spot. The blind spot usually enlarges and may move across your field of vision. Generally, ocular migraines are considered harmless. Usually they are painless, cause no permanent visual or brain damage and do not require treatment.

Other possible causes of vision problems are fatigue, overexposure to the outdoors, and many medications.

To restore your eyesight, it is important to learn the causes of blurred vision, therefore get your health examined to find the reason of the vision disturbance.  While you may require medical treatment, there are some easy exercises that you can do at home to help relieve blurry vision and improve eyesight.
