Although Romeo and Juliet may not have been inspired by previous residents of the building at 40 Sheep Street, William Rogers (real life Sir John Falstaff) did ‘inspire’ Shakespeare to write the Merry Wives of Windsor, as legend goes, at the decree of Elizabeth as she wished to see “Falstaff in love!”
During the Valentine weekend, the spirit of Valentine’s lives on with a romantic haunted pub walk of Stratford; ghost tours by lantern-light within the building and overnight ghost hunts that include a rose for every lady.
The haunted pub walk of the town will retell the loves and life of the Stratford’s residents, including of course the most romantic of them all – William Shakespeare!
