Foundation Contractor in Oregon Hosts Free PDH Course on Helical Foundation Systems

Dec. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Roseburg, OR - All design professionals are being encouraged to attend a free 5-hour Professional Development Hours (PDH) course being held February 8-9, 2011 and covers topics about helical foundation systems, including: helical soil, nails, and push piers. All attendees must be registered before February 1, 2011.

The class is being held on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Oregon Columbia Chapter Associated General Contractors at 9450 SW Commerce Circle in Wilsonville, OR. The Wednesday class is being held from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Hilton Eugene & Conference Center at 66 East 6th Avenue in Eugene, OR. Though different days, the course material will be the same. Both days also include a free lunch.

Each 5-hour class investigates: helical foundation systems, helical soil nails, push pier systems, typical applications, design considerations, capacity calculations, verification of capacity, and load testing.

Participation in this course is considered as a total savings of $500 per attendee. The course identification is: ICC-ES AC358. The class is equivalent to 5 PDH credits.

About the Class Presenter:
Jeff Kortan, P.E. the director of engineering at the internationally renowned Foundation Supportworks network, will be presenting both days. As a geotechnical engineer, Kortan performs product designs, product verification testing, preliminary design applications, project consulting, installation, sales, marketing training, and education-based material development and presenting.

Kortan has an extensive educational background having received his Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from South Dakota State University in 1993 and his Master of Science degree in engineering in 1995. Almost immediately thereafter, Kortan began his professional career working for seven years as a consulting geotechnical engineer, four years working at Terracon, and maintains working as the director of engineering at FSI ever since 2008.

He's a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI).

Kortan has a wife and three sons and is the President of the Board of Directors for the Ollie Webb Center, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides services and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
