By: 51 Productions The emergence of digital technology has enabled talented filmmakers an opportunity to create films about stories that inspire them, and get them out in public more rapidly than traditional methods have allowed. Using D-SLRs allows aspiring filmmakers as well as experienced cinematographers on a budget the ability to precisely control their image. A couple of years ago feature productions were only respectable if they were shot with expensive 35mm film. “Brickwalk Café” writer and producer Chris Graue and editor Brian Nenno utilized products by Nikon and Adobe to shoot and edit the film. “Brickwalk Café” was directed by Kevin Senzaki “Toshi,” a USC film school graduate, and he is quite pleased with the outcome of the production. “Brickwalk Café” was shot entirely on a pair of Nikon D90s and edited with Adobe Premiere. “Our shoot was seamless and the quality of our edited HD product, as well as the ease of use of software is the best I've ever experienced with any camera/software combination,” The D90’s movie function allows filmmakers the option of shooting movies in three different motion JPEG formats: 320 x 216 pixels, 640 x 424 pixels and 1,280 x 720 pixels (or more commonly referred to as 720p). The image sensor on the D90 is larger than most camcorders and allows high ISO performance when there isn’t much light. “The new technology allows independent filmmakers the opportunity to compete on the same level as big-budget Hollywood features,” states Jewell Sparks, a strategic producer for the film. The production team utilized Kino Flo lighting for 98% of the production. Kino Flo’s unique soft lighting and professional color quality has been the pearl for many HD productions, and has been known to work very closely with the creative community for decades. “The funny thing is, our giant Wall-O-Lite made our shots where we had to fake daylight look more believable than the shots we actually got during daylight,” quipped Graue. 51 Productions plans on utilizing social network marketing and various distribution channels to build awareness of their film and can be found on Facebook by visiting: http://www.facebook.com/ # # # About 51 Productions: 51 Productions a film and digital media company that creates web videos, television programs, and now feature length productions.
