Machu Picchu and Easter Island just got closer

Dec. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- From 05 January 2011 travellers will be able to combine two of Latin America’s most iconic sites, Machu Picchu and the giant moai statue heads with the launch of LAN’s new direct service from Lima, Peru to Hanga Roa, Easter Island.  
Previously, anyone wanting to visit Easter Island from South America would have to fly from Chile’s capital Santiago. However, from January you will be able to fly direct from Peru’s capital in just 5 hours and twenty minutes.  The return journey back to Lima takes just under 5 hours. The flight is currently scheduled to depart Lima twice a week on Wednesday and Sunday.
Following the launch LAN airlines have teamed up with specialist tour operator Journey Latin America to offer a special introductory price on 13-day holiday to Machu Picchu and Easter Island.  The holiday costs £1795 per person. The special price is valid for travel from 05 January to 15 April 2011 book by 31 January 2011. The price includes flights, mid-range accommodation, airport transfers, guided excursions and breakfast daily. Notes on Easter Island:
Polynesian Easter Island (Rapa Nui) lies 3790km off the Chilean coast, in the sub-tropical south Pacific. Windswept and grassy on one side, lushly vegetated (though treeless) on the other, and with a benign climate, it is famous for the cluster of enigmatic stone heads standing starkly against the azure skyline. The unique atmosphere is mysterious but the people are friendly and unassuming. The village of Hanga Roa has a number of simple hotels. There’s a programme of excursions on offer by Journey Latin America to visit the Rano Kau volcano, site of the ancient petroglyphs and religious ceremonial statues; Ahu Vinapu (ahu and moai stone statues), Rano Raraku quarry and ‘factory of the statues’ and Poike crater. There are also visits to Orongo,a  ceremonial village and to Ahu Akivi, where seven gigantic moai staues stand on a plinth facing the sea.
