Dec. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Employees of FedEx Express (FedEx), a subsidiary of FedEx Corp.  and one of the world’s largest express transportation companies, brought a memorable holiday celebration to terminally ill children in the Philippines.

FedEx Philippines organized a garden themed party for sixty children and their families under the Child Life Program of Kythe, Inc., a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the quality of life for pediatric patients, particularly those with cancer and other chronic illnesses.

FedEx employee volunteers accompanied the children through a series of fun activities such as face painting, cupcake decorating, games, and a visit from Santa Claus.

FedEx volunteers also encouraged the children and their families to list down the things they are thankful for and to place the list inside a “gratitude box,” which the children designed. The activity aimed to inspire the children and their families to focus on the gifts of life and to maintain a positive outlook in spite of difficulties.

Giving back to local communities through philanthropy is a FedEx core value. FedEx supports Kythe’s "Child Life Program," a specialized program implemented in ten affiliate hospitals nationwide to provide care and education to terminally ill children and psychosocial support to their families. Earlier this year, FedEx took child patients on a tour of the La Mesa Eco Park and engaged them in a day of environmental learning and fun. FedEx Philippines employees actively contribute to these efforts by volunteering as teachers, mentors, and helpers, collectively logging hundreds of volunteer hours each year.

In the Philippines, FedEx also has a long-standing relationship with Safe Kids Philippines to create safer, more walkable environments for child pedestrians, with Gawad Kalinga to improve the quality of education for children in underprivileged communities, and with Junior Achievement to educate and inspire young people to understand how entrepreneurship can improve the quality of their lives and their communities.
