Dec. 21, 2010 - PRLog -- The Mississippi Dental Board issued Regulation Number 45, a document covering the requirements of cardiopulmonary resuscitation in dental offices which implements future requirement of AED’s.  The mandate will go into effect July 1, 2012 and requires all dental offices to have a minimum of one properly functioning Automated External Defibrillator (AED), or equivalent defibrillator, on the premises of each dental office.

The regulation stipulates that the AED must be maintained and function properly at all times, and that availability of a properly functioning AED shall be made available to any member or agent of the Dental Board for review.

The regulation also requires that all licensed dentists and dental hygienists licensed by the State of Mississippi maintain a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Even auxiliary personnel involved in direct patient care will be required to receive the CPR certification within 180 days of employment.

Failure to comply with these requirements could result in revocation of license or other disciplinary action by the Board.
