Dec. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp.  and the world’s largest express transportation company, has deployed a Boeing 777 Freighter (777F) to service the direct connection from Hong Kong to the FedEx Europe hub in Paris, France.  The 777F offers a payload improvement of 50,000 lbs. per week compared to the MD-11 previously used.

“The new aircraft and additional capacity enhances FedEx connectivity between the two regions. This latest deployment reflects how we continue to listen and respond to our customers’ shipping needs,” said David L. Cunningham, Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. “It also positions FedEx well for an anticipated increase in trade as the European economy gradually recovers.”

The value of Hong Kong exports in the first nine months of 2010 reached US$286.1 billion, up 26.1 percent compared to the same period last year.  Exports to the European Union contributed 11 percent to this total value, the second-largest behind Mainland China.  Hong Kong also saw an 11 percent increase in the value of exports to the European Union from January to September this year.

FedEx launched its direct service from Hong Kong to its European hub at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris in April 2010.  The service allowed customers to enjoy overnight delivery from Hong Kong to key cities in major European markets, including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

With the deployment of the 777F on the Hong Kong-Paris service, FedEx has now put into operation five 777F services from Asia.  The first 777F service was introduced in January connecting Shanghai with Memphis.  The Hong Kong-Memphis 777F service was launched in late March, followed by Singapore-Osaka-Memphis in July and Shenzhen-Memphis in November.

In addition to service enhancements, the 777F delivers environmental benefits to FedEx operations. The aircraft’s engine technology reduces emissions by 18 percent.  Investment in its aircraft fleet is an important part of the FedEx commitment to reduce its CO2 aircraft emissions by 20% by 2020 .
