Dec. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Melbourne - These days many companies are using social media channels to engage their customers. Quite often many companies get it wrong by excessively spamming customers with constant sales messages. This normally results in the customer switching off or even worse, blocking the company.

One Australian company, Securepay is doing something different this Christmas, by using Twitter to align their brand with a good cause. SecurePay put out a Christmas message asking customers to RT or retweet the message offering a $1 donation for every message.

The donation goes to The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s eSmart initiative. The eSmart system is designed to assist schools to create a generation of young people who are smart, safe and responsible users of digital technology.

In recent times there has been an increase in the number of social movements online to generate awareness, everything from reducing violence against women to supporting cancer suffers. The SecurePay Christmas campaign has gone one step further and has given value to the social media status update message.

“SecurePay’s business is all about providing payment security online, it makes sense for us to support The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s eSmart initiative, and really it’s our corporate social responsibility,” said Rob McIntyre SecurePay’s MD.

The campaign runs up until Christmas and has a target of $5000.

SecurePay was established in 1999 as an online payment gateway provider in Australia and has around 19,000 business customers, both large and small. SecurePay has offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide and employs 60 people.
