Dec. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Close to 16,000 people have already been ice skating at Waterfront Winterland so far this year- that's nearly enough to fill Swansea's Liberty Stadium.

Figures released this week show the attraction is again proving popular by pulling in visitors of all ages since opening in the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum on November 21.

Statistics also show Waterfront Winterland is doing better than the same time in 2009 and 2008 by attracting over 55,000 people in its first three weeks.

The attraction combines the main Admiral ice rink and Rocky's rink for children with the 44-metre-high Miles Hire giant wheel and a family funfair.

Visitors can also meet Santa in his grotto and enjoy live music and food.

The statistics show over 1,600 families have already been to see Santa in his grotto.

Model penguin stabilisers for children learning to ice skate have also boosted the event's Christmas feel for 2010.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: "Ice skating is normally an activity you associate with the Alps or Central Park in New York so it's a real treat for people to be able to ice skate outdoors right here in Swansea.

"There's something very festive about the sight of people ice skating and it's just one activity of many people can take part in at Waterfront Winterland to get in the seasonal spirit.

"The weather may have been especially cold so far this winter but visitor figures at the attraction are hugely encouraging. They're testament to the enduring popularity of Waterfront Winterland."

Waterfront Winterland runs until January 9.
