Dec. 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Dr Simon Rosenbaum from Queensland’s Australian Skin Clinics (http://www.ozskin.com) says treating the signs of skin ageing can be achieved by combining cosmetic treatments.

‘A combination of non-surgical procedures can treat the entire face, including premature jowling, wrinkles and fine lines, pigmentation, scarring, loss of elasticity or volume, and poor skin texture and tone,’ he says.

According to Dr Rosenbaum, even skin tone is considered to be the most significant factor people assess when determining beauty. ‘Particularly as this reflects inner health, a notion that has been established in scientific studies,’ he says. ‘even skin tone has been judged as being more important than wrinkle correction.’

Dr Rosenbaum believes there are four key modes to addressing skin concerns.

Step 1
‘Studies have shown poor texture and pigmentation can be more ageing than volume loss and skin laxity,’ he says. ‘The use of light and laser – such as Omnilux and Fraxel – is a good place to kick-start complexion rejuvenation.’

Dr Rosenbaum believes fractional laser is the gold standard for skin resurfacing. ‘It delivers tiny spots of fractionated energy sufficient for collagen production to tighten without impairing the skin’s ability to heal,’ he says. ‘The end result is a brighter and more youthful-looking face.’

Step 2
Lax or loose facial skin is a key contributor to an ageing face. ‘I believe Thermage nXT, a radiofrequency tightening therapy, is the best available non-surgical procedure for tightening loose skin, treating fine lines and open pores,’ Dr Rosenbaum says. ‘It’s typically a “lunchtime” procedure, whereby patients resume everyday activities straightaway. ’

Step 3
Dr Rosenbaum says stimulating the skin by removing any dead cells will encourage renewal. ‘It’s easy to forget the effectiveness of basic treatments in this age of technology, so I would recommend chemicals peels and topical treatments such as Vitamin A derivative Tazarotene, plus dermabrasion treatments,’ he says.

Step 4
Lastly, improving skin texture and replacing volume is key to healthy-looking skin. ‘I address this with a suite of treatments, including Regen PRP (platelet-rich plasma injections), Botox and injectable dermal fillers,’ he says.

Injectable fillers smooth out facial lines and wrinkles and boost volume. ‘For superficial lines and wrinkles, my filler of choice is Restylane or Juvederm, although for supporting deeper lines and restoring volume, a thicker filler such as Sub-Q or Voluma can provide a “lift” as well as smoothing the skin,’ says Dr Rosenbaum. ‘In specific cases I prefer Radiesse as it stimulates new collagen.’

Platelet-rich plasma injections (PRP) uses a client’s own blood to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture, tone and its rejuvenation capacity. ‘The patient’s blood samples are spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma, which is rich in stem cells and platelets,’ says Dr Rosenbaum. ‘This serum is reinjected carefully into the layers directly underneath the skin.’

‘One combination I’m achieving excellent results from at present is following up Fraxel laser or Laser Genesis with topical PRP treatments and Tazarotene.’

Dr Rosenbaum advocates that a holistic approach to facial rejuvenation can make a significant improvement to the ageing face – whether this is to refresh the face, delay the need for surgery or to help ready the skin for any surgical procedures in the future.
