New Health and Safety Company Aims to Combat Community Disparities

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec. 14, 2010 - Cincinnati, OH—-When the  Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati recently released it’s Community Health Status Survey report, Veronica Birch knew she had made the right decision.  According to the report, almost 2/3rd of adults in the tri-state region are overweight, and that 16% do not have a routine place to get medical care. “These numbers are quite alarming, and indicates that we have a lot of work to do”, said Birch.

Earlier this year, Mrs. Birch, a nurse of ten years, launched HappyNurse Health and Safety Training in Roselawn, in hopes of educating and creating awareness of health and safety issues in the community. “We have to do a better job at outreach and educating the public about the importance of their health, or else these numbers are going to continue to get worse.”  

Mrs. Birch concludes that the obesity problem in the tri-state is largely due to an inactive and unhealthy lifestyles. She believes that in our fast-paced society, people are not taking time out of their days to prepare meals, but are opting for fast food instead. Furthermore, many adults are sitting behind computers and desks all day without getting any exercise. Not only are adults overweight, but there is an increase in childhood obesity as well. In low-income areas, gaining access to fresh foods is also becoming a concern.

Besides combating health issues, Mrs. Birch launched the ‘Save A Life’ campaign. Street violence is escalating and she would like to teach the community what to do if they are ever faced with a victim of violence. The company offers a range of health and safety training classes including CPR & First Aid. “We can save lives if people are equipped with the right tools and information.”
