Dec. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- National Day Nurseries Association, Head Office, 14 December 2010 – National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) today announced that it is giving away a free factsheet to all nurseries to help the sector understand its obligations under the Equality Act 2010.

Introduced in October, the Act is a key piece of legislation which has a number of implications for nurseries both as employers and as settings caring for children. The Equality Act brings together a number of pieces of legislation and strengthens and introduces new elements around discrimination and equal opportunity. Nurseries are affected by this on a number of levels, from how they will need to approach staff recruitment to ensuring equality of access for children and families.

NDNA has produced a factsheet which shares what nurseries need to do and consider as a result of the Equality Act, and has announced that it is making this factsheet available to non-members for free in order to support the sector. Nurseries which are not members of NDNA can complete a short form at http;//ww.ndna.org.uk/freefactsheet and will be sent the comprehensive factsheet via email. The resource shares more about the Act, including new areas that nurseries must consider. This helps nurseries to see where their own approaches might need to be adapted, such as their recruitment process. Useful information is provided on potentially difficult areas such as asking health related questions during interviews, and about what nurseries need to do as a result of the legislation. Case studies and frequently asked questions demonstrate how the legislation will work in the real world, and links to further information are provided.

Claire Schofield, Director of Membership, Policy and Communications at NDNA comments: “The Equality Act raises a number of important areas for nurseries to consider and it is vital that nurseries review all aspects of what they do to ensure that they comply with the Equality Act. However, NDNA understands that is can be challenging to digest large pieces of legislation and our factsheets provide accessible and simple information for members that clearly show what is relevant to them and what they need to do as a result. We are delighted to be making our Equality Act factsheet available to all nurseries free as a taste of the support we provide, and hope that nurseries who receive it find it useful in ensuring that they meet their duties.”
