Celebrating New Year – For Singles

For some people the thought of starting the New Year single is a daunting one. This year HolidayCheck has come up with a few places to spend New Year’s Eve to make sure it goes off with a bang.

Dec. 14, 2010 - PRLog -- Edinburgh
The Scottish capital hosts a 4 day festival over the New Year period, which is known as Hogmanay in Scotland. As well as Scottish traditions like the opening “torchlight procession”, the event includes a series of ticketed and free live music and DJ performances. The highlight of the festival is the New Year’s Eve street party, where you can drink in one of the temporary outside bars and watch the spectacular fireworks display. If you want to appreciate the whole festival, HolidayCheck recommends the Hotel Novotel Edinburgh.

Prague
The perfect city trip to enjoy with a group of single friends.  You will find many opportunities to join bar crawls and river cruises in this party city. They will give you the chance to meet likeminded people to party into the night with.  It is just before midnight that the atmosphere in the city really starts to build. Crowds gather in the old town square to watch the fireworks.  The difference in Prague is that many of the fireworks are handheld and set off by members of the crowd! Don’t be alarmed on the whole it is safe, but only just!

Singles Cruises
For those who are looking to meet someone on New Year’s Eve, many travel companies offer specialized singles cruises. Popular destinations include the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico and Egypt. These destinations also have the added advantage of some winter sunshine.  You can sip cocktails, enjoy glamorous parties and singles mixers, as you sail to and from different locations.  In many packages it is also possible to book specially as a solo traveler. For those that are willing to do this, it will mean they are matched with a roommate of the same sex upon arrival and will not have to pay any single supplements.

The Greek Islands
For something a little different at this time of year, take advantage of the peaceful off peak season in some of the Greek islands.  However don’t expect this peace to last on New Year’s Eve itself! During the holiday period bars and clubs are extremely lively with many parties spilling into the streets and going on until the sun rises.  The Greeks consider New Year to be lucky, so maybe celebrating here will make for a lucky year.

New York
There is always something happening in “the city that never sleeps” and New Year’s Eve is no different.  There is something for everyone here, from those who want to attend glamorous balls, or for those who prefer a more casual dress code.  If you are planning to attend one of the many singles events hosted in the city, we recommend an open mind and willing spirit. If you want to stay in the heart of Manhattan, HolidayCheck recommends the Hotel Belvedere, which is just 2 blocks away from all the action in Times Square.
