Seeks Growth Through Expanding Audience

DANVILLE—Dec. 13, 2010—The Lazarex Cancer Foundation of Danville has produced and is distributing a 60-second video that captures its message of delivering hope to patients and families dealing with a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Lazarex is distributing the video on the Internet this month with plans to place it on cable television news programs and as a segment amongst the trailers in movie theatres in 2011. “It’s no surprise that the past two years have been difficult for non-profit organizations no matter how worthwhile the cause,” said Lazarex president Dana Dornsife. “We are always looking for creative & efficient approaches to spread our message and appeal to potential supporters.”

The film was produced by Peek Media and tells the story of a young man who overcomes a terminal cancer diagnosis to make it to his high school graduation day with the help of an FDA-approved clinical trial found for him and supported in part by Lazarex.

“In the three years we have been doing this work I have discovered that the greatest gift that can be given or received is hope,” Dornsife said. “The point of our film is to deliver our message of hope in a memorable way and perhaps spur the audience to remember Lazarex when they consider their own giving plans.”

Lazarex has helped hundreds of patients since 2006. “The good news is that we have been very successful in raising our profile with potential patients, and the further good news is that our patients are living longer and generating greater hope through the success of the clinical trials we have helped them find,” Dornsife said. “The not-so-good news is that our financial resources are stretched thinner as we have success, and we have to broaden our appeal for donations to help defray the costs of the trials and of the living expenses of our patients who usually have to travel great distances to participate.”

As the film shows, those interested in helping Lazarex extend the gift of hope can do so by visiting its website at www.lazarex.org. Visitors can not only make a straight donation, they can also explore the various events Lazarex holds and the products it sells to mix in some fun with their giving.

“It’s not too late to make a tax-deductible gift for the 2010 tax year,” Dornsife said. “We need as much help as possible to continue giving the gift of hope to those who might otherwise have none.”
