State Secretary Homann to Visit Bay Area on Occasion of German American E-Mobility Symposium

Making E-Mobility Work: The Roles of Technology, Policy, and Behavioral Change – A German Californian Dialogue to Take Place in Silicon Valley on December 16th, 2010

Dec. 13, 2010 - PRLog -- Jochen Homann, State Secretary in charge of energy, industry and technology policy at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, will visit the San Francisco Bay Area upon invitation by the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., Office for the Western U.S. to speak at the symposium Making E-Mobility Work and meet with the heads of leading research institutions in the area. Highlights of the trip include a tour of the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) at the NASA Ames Research Center as well as a visit at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). He will be accompanied by German Consul General Peter Rothen and Dr. Benno Bunse, CEO of the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. In addition, State Secretary Homann will meet with the U.S. representatives of leading German car manufacturers to discuss recent experiences on the U.S. market and the outlook for 2011.
On Thursday, December 16th, State Secretary Homann will present the German policy framework that has been established for e-mobility at the symposium Making E-Mobility Work: The Roles of Technology, Policy, and Behavioral Change – A German Californian Dialogue. The event will present the realities of electric driving today and discuss the need for an all-encompassing solution that includes technology, policy, and behavioral change. German and American experts, including James Boyd, Commissioner at the California Energy Commission and Dr. Thomas Becker, Vice President Governmental Affairs at BMW Group, will examine where we are today and discuss e-mobility's opportunities as well as the challenges policy makers are facing.
