Eagle Scout receives Presentation badge at Mid America Motorworks

Eagle Scout receives Presentation badge from Mike Yager during breakfast at Mid America Motorworks.

Dec. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Effingham, Ill. – During the Dec. 3 Boy Scouts of America Leadership Breakfast at Mid America Motorworks, Eagle Scout Michael Weber talked about his experiences with scouting. Weber discussed his progression from Cub Scout to Eagle Scout, noting the positive impact scouting has made in his life. When his speech was complete, Weber received his Presentation merit badge from Mike Yager, Chief Cheerleader at Mid America Motorworks. The Presentation badge brings Weber one step closer to his goal of achieving every merit badge available to Boy Scouts before his 18th birthday in Spring 2011. He has 22 badges left to acquire of the 125 available.

Some 38 business men and women from the Effingham area attended the breakfast to learn more about Effingham County’s scouting activities. During his presentation, Weber informed guests about Venturing, a program that brings together young men and women for a positive experience. Recent Venturing for the Lincoln Trails Council has included a shooting competition among participants.

The Leadership Breakfast also included videos detailing scouting and a request for contributions to benefit local troops. Effingham County is home to 500 Boy Scouts, with approximately 75 percent of those boys participating in weekly meetings, Troop Outings, Outdoor Leadership Training and fundraisers. One fundraiser the Boy Scouts recently assisted with was parking at the 2010 Corvette Funfest on Mid America Motorworks’ corporate campus.

“The Leadership Breakfast is a great way for Boy Scouts to raise awareness of our mission within the community. It also shows community leaders what a difference we are making in young people’s lives to help them become our next leaders,” said Doug Zaring, Two Rivers District Senior Executive.

Donations raised in conjunction with the Leadership Breakfast totaled more than $13,000. The funds will be used toward construction projects at the Rhodes France Scout Reservation, as well as rebuilding the general fund. Effingham County boys have shown their commitment to the Boy Scouts program through their high level of achievement. Nearly 10 percent of local scouts achieve Eagle Scout status, well above the national average of 2 percent.

The Lincoln Trails Council Leadership Breakfast was the last in a series of events to mark the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts of America. Evan Boggs and Logan Smith, two local Boy Scouts, presented the colors to begin the morning. Two Rivers District includes Effingham, Fayette, Moultrie, Shelby and Christian counties. The mission of Boy Scouts, to “fun with a purpose,” pairs well with Mid America Motorworks’ philosophy of pursuing automotive passion.
