Dec. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- The animals and staff at Wood Green Animal Shelter in Peterborough will be having a very merry Christmas this year thanks to the fundraising efforts of Waldeck director Martin Osborne.

Martin (39) presented Chief Executive Dennis Baker with a cheque for over £5,000 after climbing Africa’s highest peak Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of his sister Bridget Osborne.

Bridget (39) was knocked down by an ambulance which lost control on ice while walking her dog near her home in Langtoft near Bourne on 17th December 2009.

Mr Baker said: “It was lovely to meet Martin and his family and to personally thank them for all of their fundraising efforts in aid of Bridget and Wood Green Animal Shelters.

“This money will go a long way towards helping feed and care for more than 6,000 animals we look after each year."

According to Martin the Wood Green Animal Shelter was a charity very close to Bridget’s heart and she spent a lot of her time helping out at animal rescue centres both in the UK and abroad.

“She loved animals and used to bring a lot of the rescue dogs home with her,” he explained. “In fact one of the dogs she adopted still lives with my parents at our family home in Peterborough.

“It was lovely to visit the shelter and present them with the money which I know will be well spent. I was so impressed by the work they do rescuing unwanted and lost animals that I’m now thinking of rehoming a dog myself!

“I would like to thank everyone who sponsored me particularly my friends and family, the Sleaford Round Table and my colleagues at Waldeck for their kind support and generosity.”
