StoneFly Inc. sees the future of IP SAN with the creation of a Virtual Software Appliance

StoneFly’s Virtual Software Appliance sets to revolutionize the industry by moving into Virtual Storage.

Dec. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Hayward, Calif. – StoneFly, Inc., the leading supplier and innovator of integrated IP Storage Area Network (SAN) systems, has unveiled its first Virtual Software Appliance, the SCVM. The SCVM, which stands for Storage Concentrator Virtual Machine, creates an lP SAN storage as virtual machine, providing the user with the ability to consolidate their virtual data center. The SCVM can provision fully managed and featured storage to local and network VMs through virtual switch or physical network connection. This virtual appliance is equipped to configure with popular virtual environments such as VMWare, Microsoft’s Hyper-V, and XEN hypervisors and virtual environments.

“SCVM is totally hardware independent and portable. You can use, move, backup, restore, duplicate, scale and expand in your local and remote data center anytime as part of your physical and virtual environment. SCVM creates complete Storage freedom for technology and an ROI-savvy data center manger who has embraced the virtual environment and is not tied down to vendors with traditional storage offering,” says Mo Tahmasebi, the CEO of StoneFly.

There is no need to purchase another box for your storage. Create an iSCSI Virtual SAN appliance along with your server virtual machines within the same hardware platform. Increase your productivity, maximize your hardware utilization, simplify your management, reduce your power and rack space, and save money by simply loading an SCVM as a Virtual Machine.

By creating a SCVM within a virtual environment, StoneFly customers may reallocate existing hardware resources to create business continuity and disaster recovery solutions. Using StoneFly award-winning Hybrid Replication™—which includes synchronous mirroring within the data center, distributed campus, asynchronous mirroring (remote replication) between remote facilities, and cloud replication—enables StoneFly customers to have an instantaneous recovery and eliminate loss of access to storage during disasters.

This tool enables our customers to lower operational data center costs plus provide a quick RTO (Return to Operation) in the event of a failure. In essence the SCVM™ is giving our customers the ability to create their own “DR Site in a box”.

If you are looking for all the functionality of an IP SAN, flexibility of deployment of virtual environment, ease of scalability, and future expansion, but short on budget and space, StoneFly’s SCVM is the product you want.

SCVMs can be used:

•To create an IP SAN within a virtual environment that eliminates the need for a separate IPSAN hardware appliance.
•As a target for local replication from an Stonefly IP SAN to a SCVM
•As a target for remote replication from an Stonefly IP SAN to a SCVM
•As a primary or secondary IP SAN Storage
•As a backend storage for an archive appliance
•As a backend storage for a security appliance
•As a backend storage for a cloud appliance
•As a backend storage for a De-dupe appliance
•As data flexible and portable data migration virtual appliance

“IT infrastructure is changing with explosion of virtualization and cloud environments. We are adapting to this natural change by introducing SCVM that can easily create IP SANs within a virtual environment.” says Director of Product Management Bahman Jalali (B.J.).

Other than the SCVM, StoneFly continues to provide Scalable IP SAN Hardware appliances with our four models: the ISC-6GS, Voyager-TSC, Voyager-6GS, and OptiSAN. All are scalable fully featured IP SAN appliances that are backed by more than 8 years of proven customer satisfaction.
