Follow on Google News | Lattitude Global Volunteering Representative Receives Services to Education AwardJohn Bristol, of educational development charity, Lattitude Global Volunteering, has been presented with an award for Services to Education by the International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Education and Training (ICD MOET) in Vietnam.
By: Molokini Marketing To mark his retirement from his position as Vietnam Programme Manager for Lattitude Global Volunteering, John Bristol was presented with the award at a ceremony in Hanoi, by Tran Ba Viet Dzung, Director General of the ICD MOET. “I have served as the Vietnam Programme Manager with Lattitude Global Volunteering for nine years and to receive the Services to Education Award is a considerable honour” John said upon receiving the award. Since Lattitude Global Volunteering opened its placements in Vietnam in 1996, over 700 volunteers have taught English to students and teachers in schools and universities across the country. In his role as Programme Manager, John has helped to place over 500 people in Vietnamese communities as volunteer English teachers. Retired languages teacher, John added “Lattitude Global Volunteering should take pride in the award, as my personal contribution has been dependent upon those who went before me, especially Brigadier John Cornell, (former Director of the charity), John Aylen, who set up the placements in Vietnam, and Barrie Downing who was programme manager before me”. During his acceptance speech, John also paid tribute to Lattitude Global Volunteering’ Lattitude Global Volunteering has developed a strong relationship with the Ministry of Education and Training in Vietnam due to the huge demand for English teachers in the country. “The help that the Vietnamese communities receive through Lattitude Global Volunteering is richly deserved. Vietnam has been very much cut off from the Western World and its people require English language skills in order to compete economically” John has been visiting Vietnam twice a year to build up Lattitude Global Volunteering’ Paul Rompani, CEO of Lattitude Global Volunteering, says “As an international educational development charity, we are delighted and proud that John Bristol has been presented with an award for services to education. Not only is it a wonderful way to mark his retirement from the charity and celebrate his contribution over the years; it also helps to highlight that our volunteers aren’t just travelling and volunteering to gain something for themselves, but that they have a truly beneficial impact on the communities they are placed in.” Lattitude Global Volunteering sends young people from around the world to overseas volunteering placements in 20 countries worldwide.
