By: National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) Professor Sylva, who has co-authored prestigious research such as the Effective Provision of Pre-School Education (EPPE) study, will be supporting NDNA as an Educational Advisor. Professor Sylva will join the NDNA Board’s National Policy Committee and play a key role in supporting NDNA’s mission to ensure all children receive the highest possible quality of care and early learning. Professor Kathy Sylva comments: “I am proud to be joining NDNA as an Educational Advisor in a voluntary capacity and I am very much looking forward to working with the NDNA team, all of whom are passionate about supporting nursery members to deliver the best possible quality of care and early learning. My own commitment to early years quality and my interest in nurseries started a number of years ago when I too worked in an early years setting. It was from working in a toddler room that I became interested in the role of nurseries in enhancing the development of young children. In my wider career I have worked with others to gather a wealth of evidence to support high- quality provision. Through working with NDNA, I hope to be able to translate what this means in the real world for nurseries and parents. “ Purnima Tanuku, Chief Executive of National Day Nurseries Association says: “We are thrilled that Professor Sylva will be supporting NDNA in a personal voluntary capacity, and believe that this will really help to inspire our members in their work to ensure that children experiencing nursery life achieve the best possible outcomes. By working with Professor Sylva we hope that families, organisations and government will understand and recognise more about the characteristics of quality and the long-term benefits for children.” For more information on NDNA please visit http://www.ndna.org.uk - Ends - Notes to editors: For more information, to arrange interviews please contact Hayley Wilson, Senior Press and Policy Officer on T: 01484 40 70 66 E: hayley.wilson@ National Day Nurseries Association is a national charity representing children’s nurseries across the UK, giving them information, training and support, so they can provide the best possible care to young children.
