Dec. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- The number of TEFL jobs abroad has tripled in the past decade, as demand for native English teachers around the world explodes.

According to reports in The Guardian, there are now over 250,000 TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) vacancies across the world, with the majority of these in Asia. This increase in demand for certified TEFL teachers makes teaching English abroad a great option for those who are struggling to find work in the UK.

Sam McManus from Peterborough, who completed a 140 Hour Combined TEFL Course with i-to-i TEFL, said:  “I was suffering at the hands of the UK's economic recession, and since available jobs in my own country were next to none, I decided to do something about opening the doors to jobs in other countries.

“I figured teaching English would be a great way to get work, as there is a high demand for English teachers in foreign countries, and plus it would be a way for me to travel to various countries as well as earning some good money.”

Teaching English abroad is a particularly tempting option for those who are having difficulty finding work in the UK, as there is no need for teaching experience, the ability to speak another language or even a degree. All it takes is a TEFL course to get started.

Internationally recognized courses with i-to-i start from just £179 and can be completed online in as little as 12 days. More comprehensive certificates, which are necessary to take on the best-paid jobs overseas, start at £399, combine online and classroom learning, and are usually completed in around 6 weeks.

Far from being a bubble that’s set to burst, i-to-i TEFL, the UK’s leading TEFL course provider, expects the demand for English teachers to continue to rise.

i-to-i TEFL spokesperson, Honor Baldry, said: “As good spoken English becomes increasingly important around the world, especially in Asia’s tiger economies, the number of opportunities for English teachers will keep increasing. For example, language school owner Pearson has just announced plans to open 50 new schools in China – and they all need teachers!

“This is good news for our graduates, who usually have little trouble in finding work abroad after they finish their TEFL courses.”
