“We’re honored to support such a worthy cause as St. Jude’s, for the second year in a row,” James Tracy, director of marketing at BSN, states. “Their commitment to children battling catastrophic diseases is truly rewarding to be a part of. We hope BSN®’s donations will go a long way in improving the lives of those St. Jude’s touches.”
With even more vendors taking part and pledging generous donations and prizes, this year’s event was bigger and better than ever before, surpassing last year’s fundraising efforts for St. Jude by more than $24,000. Contributing partners to this year’s event included the UFC® and its affiliates, UFC® magazine, Men’s Health, Maxim, Weider Publications, Lions Gate Entertainment, THQ Games, Carmi Flavors, and many, many more.
Wanda Brill, associate director of St. Jude’s Miami Office was on hand at the event, which included a ceremonial presentation of the grand total. “St. Jude Children’s Hospital is appreciative to be chosen for a second year as BSN’s charity of choice,” Wanda continues. “The hospital’s daily operating costs are $1.6 million, which are primarily covered by public contributions. Thanks to contributions like BSN’s, St. Jude can continue conducting basic and clinical research and treatment into catastrophic childhood diseases, mainly cancer.”
St. Jude has been a leader in the advancement of research and treatment of childhood cancer and other catastrophic illnesses for nearly 50 years, playing a major role in significantly reducing childhood cancer mortality rates during that time. St. Jude has developed protocols that have helped push overall survival rates for childhood cancers from less than 20 percent when the hospital first opened, to 80 percent today.
