They want to live their lives the same way and not make any changes. They feel as if the drugs or the alcohol will make them happy because it takes away the pain. Their view of life is not like the normal person. They don't see a future. This is a person that has no motivation. The Word of God can help to see things more clearly. They will be able to see that God has a purpose for them and it is not drug abuse or alcoholism. They will see that the drug abuse and the alcoholism get in the way of their progression. They will not want to hear anything from anyone and will isolate themselves because they don't want to be bothered. However, time will always catch up on them. For example, if they continue on the same path, it might lead to a traumatic DUI where someone gets killed or an arrest where they are taken to jail due to their use of illegal substances.

In Christian treatment centers, they will fare better because they will be off the streets and into an environment that fosters change. They won't have to continue living the way that they have. There will opportunities to make a difference.
