In New Bedford, An “attitude Of Gratitude”

Dec. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- New Bedford, MA (November 24, 2010) – Preventive Medicine Associates, Inc. (PMAI) joined PAACA (Positive Action Against Chemical Addiction, Inc) in sponsoring a night of celebrating recovery, remembering those who have passed, and sharing hope for the future.  

“Attitude of Gratitude is about recognizing the difficulties of recovering from addictions,” said PMAI Medical Director Dr. Punyamurtula Kishore MD, MPH, FASAM. “It is a celebration for those who have accomplished it, but it is also a chance to remember those who have not.”

The crowd of nearly two hundred enjoyed musical performances, heard motivating talks from clergy in attendance, and had the chance to view the work of artist Renee Richard Ouellette.  The artist’s works are interpretations of poetry written by incarcerated youth and featured profound expressions of sorrow and despair regarding addiction.

The event began with PAACA Executive Director Carl Alves thanking the crowd for coming out and talked about how he got involved in fighting substance abuse and creating treatment programs.  Dr. Punyamurtula Kishore MD, MPH, FASAM, then spoke about the history of Preventive Medicine and how he created it to provide those in addiction with primary care medicine.  Now, PMAI is known internationally as the ‘Massachusetts Model’ and has more than thirty offices across the Commonwealth.
