Women’s Eco-Adventure to Mexico Teaches Outdoor Skills and More

Week-long eco-adventure ignites self-confidence in women through outdoor skills participation, group camaraderie and sustainable tourism in Baja and the Sea of Cortez. Hosted by Becoming an Outdoors Woman and Green Edventures.

Dec. 1, 2010 - PRLog -- “’Okay, jump in! Go, go, go!’  It could have been a wartime scene from a chopper except for the fact that we were eight middle-aged women jumping off a pleasure boat in the clear blue waters off La Paz trying to catch a glimpse of the elusive whale shark,” said Susan Sie from Rhinebeck, NY.

Susan is one of 9 women who trekked to Mexico last April as part of the Baja BOW Island Adventure for Women offered in partnership by Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) and Green Edventures. Baja BOW is a week-long, island eco-adventure which includes living at an island camp on a World Heritage Site and exploring one of the most biologically divers ecosystems in the world, the Sea of Cortez.

“Many of the women on these trips have never snorkeled before let alone plunged into a wild ocean environment,” explains Tara Short, BOW Instructor and Founder and Director of Green Edventures.
“They might be hesitant to even put their ears below the waterline because of fear or a lack of self-confidence, but by the end of the week you can’t get them out of the water. The transformation is amazing.”

Baja BOW is more than teaching women to snorkel, according to BOW Director Peggy Farrell.
The program fosters a positive and supportive learning environment. Participants bond with each other over a common goal and build self-confidence and deep friendships along the way.

Christine Crepeault from MA said, “I have been sharing my pictures with friends and telling them about our incredible week in Mexico - they all tell me the same thing, they tried tours that were misrepresented, over-priced and not worth it, plus the instructors lacked passion/enthusiasm. Not so with Green Edventures. They can’t believe all we did and how flexible and patient the staff was.”

Baja BOW, April 14-20, 2011, is now open for registration. Adult women of any skill level or age are welcome to participate in 7-days of adventure in paradise at this full service island beach camp under the desert stars. All equipment is provided and meals are prepared by a camp chef.
