Nov. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON, DC -- Mondo Group, a US-based, American-owned construction, supply chain management and logistics contracting company, has started water well drilling activities at Camp Kiwi, Afghanistan, approximately 100 miles northwest of the Afghan capital of Kabul.

This project will enable Camp Kiwi, which is operated by the New Zealand contingent of the NATO-International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), to be self-sustaining in water provision. “It is essential that our troops have a reliable supply of quality water to sustain the level of hydration necessary in this arid region, we are happy to be a part of this effort,” says Tommy Hakimi, CEO of Mondo Group, Inc. According to US military planners, each soldier requires a gallon of water daily, just to survive, and to fulfill sanitation requirements, roughly 1.2 gallons per meal, or a total of 3.6 gallons per day, minimum.

Mondo Group, Inc. is a US-based, globally oriented logistics and supply chain management contractor. It sources and delivers mission critical equipment, material and personnel in areas where political strife, social instability and infrastructure deficiencies make supply operations difficult and vulnerable to hostile actions. Mondo Group’s core capabilities include global sourcing, procurement, transportation, storage, program management and staffing.

The water well drilling program at Camp Kiwi will alleviate the cumbersome task of water delivery in the region and ensure a sufficient water supply, an essential component of troop deployment and national development.  Mondo Group personnel are responsible for the rapid mobilization and well construction, and linkage it to local water storage and supply systems.

Mondo Group also continues to supply Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to important US Agency for International Development- (USAID-) sponsored water resource projects conducted by the Afghan Ministry of Interior.  Mondo Group personnel are helping high level ministerial officials develop and restore water provision, drainage and sewage facilities throughout the country.

It is anticipated that Mondo Group will soon be involved in drilling more water wells in Afghanistan. “Reconstructing the water infrastructure in Afghanistan is as vital to ensuring the country’s future, as it is to sustaining our troops on the ground, and achieving success with the immediate mission at hand,” says Hakimi.

The current water well construction project at Camp Kiwi and Mondo Group’s provision of high level water experts are indicative of Mondo Group’s growing footprint in agriculture, irrigation, hydro-electric power, and its other resource development initiatives throughout Central Asia.
