HolidayGems.co.uk launches 99p deposit for hard-up consumers

Nov. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Cash-strapped Brits are being offered the chance to secure their family summer holiday accommodation for next year with a deposit of just 99p. The deal is believed to be the first of its kind anywhere in the travel industry.

Online travel agency HolidayGems (www.holidaygems.co.uk) is encouraging shoppers to book early and guarantee the break of their choice without having to splash out a hefty down-payment over the costly Christmas period.

Many people booking in the peak post-Christmas holiday booking period put this cost on a credit card, incurring even more costs in interest charges.

HolidayGems’ offer is valid on all durations and prices, with a choice of more than 65,000 accommodation hotels in destinations worldwide. The deal even applies to popular destinations such as The Canaries, Spain, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, Sharm el Sheikh, Dubai and Greece.

HolidayGems managing director Jason Edwards explained: ”We know that Christmas and New Year is a really expensive time for people, but increasingly you have to book early to get the lowest prices and deals such as free child places.

“This puts consumers – and especially families – in a really tough position. Our fantastic 99p deposit will mean they can pick the accommodation they want and then budget accordingly once the Christmas festivities are over. We hope the deal gives everyone the opportunity to go into January with a great holiday to look forward to.”

To meet expected demand HolidayGems is drafting in extra call centre staff and extending its opening hours.

The 99p deposit offer is free of restrictions and extra conditions. The only requirement on customers is to pay the total holiday balance 14 weeks before departure. Customers can book in confidence; HolidayGems holidays including a flight are protected under the ATOL scheme, while accommodation sales are covered via the company’s membership of The Global Travel Group.
For a family of three, the typical deposit for accommodation only would be at least £180.
