Built in 1914, Balboa Stadium is located behind San Diego High School and was the Chargers home from 1961-66. Balboa Stadium witnessed the Chargers glory years and hosted the 1961, 1963, and 1965 American Football League championship games, as well as the 1961, 1962, and 1963 All-Star contests. In 1967, the team left Balboa for then-named San Diego Stadium (now Qualcomm Stadium) in Mission Valley. In 1967, it housed the North American Soccer League San Diego Toros and today houses sporting events for a multitude of schools and organizations including San Diego High School and San Diego City Community College.

San Diego Boca FC President Yan Skwara commented, “We are very excited to announce our new stadium venue for the 2011 season for our club and fans. We greatly enjoyed playing at Helix High School Stadium and connected with a devoted fan base in the East County. We hope to spark that same passion for professional outdoor soccer through the rest of San Diego at our new home at Balboa Stadium. The wider field at Balboa Stadium also better fits Boca FC’s style of play as spreading the field and utilizing our talents all across the pitch is more our style. I think our fans will enjoy our stadium transition and enjoy the convenience that Balboa Stadium offers to all soccer fans throughout the county of San Diego.”

Tickets will go on sale for both individual and season seats for Balboa Stadium on January 3, 2011 and will become available at the Boca Soccer Store in Old Town or at www.sdboca.com.  Tickets expect to sell quickly, as stadium capacity maxes out at 5,600 per game.

San Diego Boca FC continues preparing for their upcoming 2011 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season, and is seeking to build upon their success in their inaugural 2010 campaign. San Diego Boca FC earned third place in the Western Division, propelling them into the NPSL playoffs. In the first round, they trounced Real San Jose 4-0 on the road, but fell to the eventual NPSL champion Sacramento Gold in a very highly contested western division final.

The San Diego Boca FC roster is mixed with well-traveled veterans and young, local talents. Former Los Angeles Galaxy goalkeeper Steve Gonzales who had a solid season in the net with Boca FC in 2010, looks forward to leading the charge in this upcoming 2011 season. San Diego Sockers member Dan Antoniuk is another exciting addition to the Boca FC roster as Antoniuk signed with Boca FC in mid season 2010 and added solid central midfielder. The 2010 NPSL All-Star representatives from San Diego Boca FC were forward Justin Picou, who led the team with 5 goals, and Andres Canizales, who was instrumental in orchestrating the Boca FC midfield. Also, recently signed Danish midfielder Christian Hansen had a breakout performance in the international friendly between Boca FC and Mexican Liga de Ascenso team Irapuato with a 30-yard blast into the back of the net.
