History of Montgomery County Revealed in New Local Book

Nov. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Bordered by the Oconee River on the west and the Altamaha River on the south, formed where the Ocmulgee and Oconee Rivers collide head-on at the forks, Montgomery County's rolling pine barrens are dotted with rustic pioneer log cabins, stately antebellum clapboard houses and elegant Victorian homes.

In a new pictorial history book by local authors Larry R. Braddy and Olivia Williamson Braddy, over 200 vintage photographs portray the lives of farmers, merchants and their families engaged in everyday life, school and worship through the decades.

• Named for Richard Montgomery, an American general killed in an attack on the British in Quebec during the American Revolution
• Early settlers to Montgomery County cleared the pine barrens to plant crops of corn, tobacco and cotton
• Families who now reside in Montgomery County are eighth- and ninth-generation descendants of the pioneers who settled the county during the 1790s and early 1800s
