Nov. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- (Pompano Beach, FL – November 29,  2010)  As technological advances happen with ever-increasing speed and fervor, it becomes more and more important to ensure that future generations understand how to use new digital tools to help them succeed.  Today’s classrooms must embrace the technology of tomorrow and prepare students to harness its power when they enter the workforce.  In order for this to happen, however, educators need to be proficient in every form of technology and stay abreast of newly developed equipment and software.  Tune in to The Balancing Act November 30 at 7 am (ET/PT) on Lifetime Television to hear Helen Easterling Williams, Dean of the School of Education at Azusa Pacific University, talk about how APU is preparing future educators for the new digital classroom.

To help with this preparation, APU’s Emerging Technology Center (ETC) is equipped with a Starboard, a Smartboard, a Podcasting center and laptop bank, a large flat-screen TV, and even a green-screen for video production.  There’s also iPods and iPads, digital recorders, and motion sensitive cameras to capture live presentations and promote video conferencing.  Students, education professionals, and even external community partners can use the ETC to explore new technology and familiarize themselves with its function and benefit.

“Everything in our world is technologically based,” Williams says.  “K-12 teachers and administrators should be comfortable with all forms of technology in the classroom, so that our children can be properly prepared for the future.  The Balancing Act is a great opportunity to encourage viewers to advance themselves personally and professionally with a degree in one of APU’s 27 education programs.”

APU is a Christian university and seeks to prepare future teachers for the moral challenges that arise in today’s classrooms due to Internet use and promote the responsible use of technology.  They offer both traditional classroom instruction and also online degree programs to benefit stay-at-home moms, homeschoolers, and the disabled.

“Having Helen Easterling Williams from Azusa Pacific University on ‘The Balancing Act’ has brought yet another great solution to women, one that will have a real impact, and help them balance their lives,” says Doug Campbell, Founder and Executive VP of Programming for The Balancing Act.  “This is the essence of solutions-based programming, and we are proud that we could bring this information to our viewers.”
