The awards shortlist was drawn up earlier this month and as well as the usual entries from football, cricket and athletics, there were also nominations from some of the region’s representatives from the Commonwealth Games that took place in Delhi last month.
Nominated for the Award for Remarkable Achievement are Darren Grey, Owen Bainbridge and Callum Lindsey for his achievements in horse riding. Callum is deaf and has celebral palsy but has achieved incredible success in horse riding in 2010. Not only did he rise above the competition to take victory at the North Region Champion ships in the Countryside Challenge race, he also qualified for the RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association)
The awards night will take place on December 2, attended by over 1000 people. As well as having their friends and family to cheer them on, attending on the night will be sports celebrities such as the Darlington FC manager, Mark Cooper, to make sure the evening is one they’ll never forget.
Here’s wishing all the nominees the best of luck and congratulations on the success and hard work you have already achieved!
