Nov. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Taiwan’s Men’s Tennis team makes history at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, as the team wins gold, defeating their Uzbekistan counterparts, while previous best was third in the event. Yen-Hsun Lu (盧彥勳) was unable to play due to a back injury, but still participated in the games as a coach and gave his support and guidance for Ti Chen’s (陳迪) dominant victory over Uzbekistan’s Murad Inoyatov.

Ti Chen crushed Inoyatov 6:2, 6:4, moving the team closer towards the gold medal. Lu’s joy and excitement were apparent as he hugged Chen, who smiled in victory as he delivered a strong performance under pressure.

Later Tsung-hua Yang (楊宗樺) lost 4:6, 0:6 to Uzbekistan’s top-ranked player Denis Istomin who is currently ranked no. 40.

With 1-1 tie in the men’s singles, the gold medal hinged on the final doubles match. Tsung-hua Yang paired with Chu-huan Yi (易楚寰) to win 6:3, 6:4 against Uzbekistan’s Istomin and Inoyatov. From the sidelines, Lu and Chen gave their utmost moral support for the young doubles players. The pair produced a dominant performance to clinch another gold for Taiwan.

The gold medal comes as the result of excellent team work, which remained strong even with Lu’s withdrawal due to injury. Everyone in the team contributed to the momentous achievement, from coaches Yu-hui Lian (連玉輝), Guo-long He (何國龍) to star players Yen-Hsun Lu, Ti Chen, Tsung-hua Yang, Chu-huan Yi, to Hsin-han Lee (李欣翰) and Liang-Chi Huang (黃亮祺) on the bench, to physical trainer En-Ye (葉恩) and training partner Wang-cheng Xie (謝旺成). Earlier the women’s team grabbed silver, bagging one silver and one gold for Taiwan. The victories have boosted the team’s confidence as they go into the singles matches starting Wednesday.

Lu hopes to return to his best physical condition soon, but to avoid aggravating his back injury, the coaches decided to send Ti Chen, Tsung-hua Yang, and Chu-huan Yi to the challenge. The trio performed superbly to conquer the gold.

Through the tournament, the team has shown the true meaning of teamwork, bringing a new era of fineness for Taiwan tennis.
