Dunlop tire history

Dunlop is about driving. Driving is about Dunlop. And it’s been this way since their beginning.

Simple ideas can definately change the world. In 1888, while watching his son ride on a tricycle, John Boyd Dunlop noticed his extreme discomfort whenever he rode over cobbled ground.

He knew the tricycle's solid rubber tires were completely to blame. The solution he had was? He wrapped the wheels with some thin rubber sheets, glued them all together, inflated them all with a football pump for a cushioning effect   and  thus created the very first commercially viable pneumatic tire. Dunlop soon patented the idea, giving this his fledgling The Dunlop tire company a quick head start over automotive competitors who had already recognized the tire’s many advantages. Ten years after, Dunlop'stire  invention had almost entirely replaced the solid tires.

In 1889, Dunlop opened its very first tire plant in Dublin and its first tire factory in Birmingham just a few years later. From there, Dunlop's growth from pioneer to successful multinational corporation was very swift.
Dunlopestablished operations in Germany, France, Canada, Australia, USA, and production facilities throughout the palnet, One example was Japan's first ever tire plant at Kobe. And with the new Dunlop Rubber Company, the company  had proved itself a pioneer in technology and business.
