Egg Freezing Service Now Available At Manchester Fertility Clinic

Nov. 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Leading North West fertility clinic Manchester Fertility Services has launched a new egg freezing service after being granted approval by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

The clinic, based at the Bridgewater Hospital in the city centre, will now be able to freeze and store eggs for women who are about to undergo medical treatment, or for women who want to have children later in life, without worrying about the quality of their eggs declining due to age.

Professor Brian Lieberman, founder of Manchester Fertility Services, says: “Egg freezing is becoming particularly popular with professional women who want concentrate on their career, or simply for those women who haven’t met the right partner yet.

“It allows them to freeze their eggs at the optimum time, to be used at a later date, even many years later. Egg quality reduces as women get older, this takes away some of the worry about not being able to use their own eggs to get pregnant.”

Pregnancy rates using frozen eggs are dependent on a number of factors, including your age, the number of eggs removed, how successfully they survive the freeze-thaw process,  how many are fertilised and how many quality embryos are available for transfer.

Professor Lieberman adds: “The process of freezing and storing eggs is relatively new - the first birth in the UK from a thawed egg was less than 10 years ago. However, studies have shown that pregnancy rates using thawed eggs are comparable to those using fresh eggs.”
