The Boston Nissan service technicians at Marlboro Nissan recommend balancing and rotating tires every 12,000 miles (approximately every four oil changes) to ensure even tire wear and extend tread life.   There are simple tests consumers can perform to determine whether or not their vehicle needs a wheel alignment.

Drivers can check for proper wheel alignment by checking their steering wheel and tire positioning. When the car is in motion, it should drive straight ahead if the driver lets go of the steering wheel.  If the car ‘pulls’ to one side or the other, most likely a wheel alignment is needed (*do not perform this test while driving at high speeds or when other cars are present).

Another way to check to see if tires need alignment is to inspect the tires for wear and tear. A car that is properly aligned will have tires that will have about the same amount of wear on the treads. If one front tire shows more tread wear than the other front tire, the driver should get an alignment.  The same test should be performed for the rear tires.
