Nov. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- With the rhythmic beats of Samba Tawe and the ATC marching band resonating through the streets of Swansea, thousands of people braved a cold Sunday evening to experience the festive fun of the annual Christmas Parade.

In total seven festive floats made their way from the Dylan Thomas Centre to the Guildhall, accompanied by Samba Tawe, the ATC marching band, Interplay and their lantern display, Habibi Dancers, Dixie Land Jazz Band, the Welsh Bockers, the stars from the Grand Theatre pantomime and Father Christmas himself.

This year the parade saw five community groups decorate their floats in a whole host of imaginative ways following a Pantomime theme including Swansea Community Centres (Hansel and Gretel), Gendros Community Centre (Snow White), Doodles of Sketty Park (Peter Pan), Penlan Children’s Centre (Cinderella) and the Rural Youth Project (Aladdin).

Each float was judged by the Lord Mayor Councillor Richard Lewis with a prize of £500 for the Best Float awarded to Doodles of Sketty Park and their Peter Pan display.  There was also a prize of £250 for the best walking procession which this year went to Interplay and their Lantern Parade.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council’s Strategic Manager for Tourism, Marketing and Events, said, “The effort of those who took part was fantastic and helped make this year’s Christmas Parade one of the best so far.”

“It was obvious to see that each group had invested so much time in preparing for the parade and had put in many hours of hard work over the last few weeks.”

“The crowd reaction as the Parade passed through the City was fantastic and I’m sure that all those that took part in the Parade – both on the floats and on foot, fully appreciated the reception that they received. On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank everyone involved in making this year’s Parade such a success.”
