Nov. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Thanks to the innovating construction, artists and visitors can enjoy ice art in the best possible conditions. To guarantee a constant temperature of -6°C, the hangar is almost entirely energy-conserving. And : everything is transportable to travel  with the next international exhibition.

International organization
The organizers approached Frisomat to ensure themselves a care-free festival in the best conditions. The special construction turned out to be just right for Frisomat, the Belgian multinational in industrial buildings. Especially for the Snow and Ice Sculpture Festival, Frisomat designed three temporary hangars with excellent insulating values.

Energy-saving and transportable
Frisomat’s steel construction provides a comfortable workplace for 40 international ice artists. It has become a pleasant, energy-conscious and noiseless environment. Moreover, the steel structure will be installed on the Bruges “Railway Station Square” to be moved somewhere else afterwards. To cool down the hangar, a decentralized, intelligent and very quiet cooling system is installed. Cold is only generated in case a specific zone requires to be cooled down. A constant temperature of -6°C will be held at all times, ideal for the skilful cut ice.

No heating
Keeping the inner temperature constant is done with energy-saving measures. The cooling element of 800 tonnes of ice in a hermetic environment is significant. The building only has to be “held” at the right temperature. A big difference with the open ice rinks for example.
Furthermore, the construction has very good insulating values with 60mm sandwich panels which are produced by Frisomat in Belgium.

Assembly record time : 10 days
Only 10 assembly days to avoid hindrance on the busy “Railway Station Square” in Bruges. Each hangar is anchored in the square to resist strong winds. The 150.000 visitors will enjoy the ice sculptures in all safety and comfort. As a reference to the severe winter, the outside of the hangar is as white as a sheet. The inside however is steel blue, ideal for the sculptures to look well thanks to the light effects.

And Frisomat wouldn’t be Frisomat if the construction couldn’t travel around the world. Next exhibition ? Just take down the hangar and move somewhere else. A masterly industrial hangar.

Frisomat general info :

Frisomat is a Belgian construction company specialized in the development, production and assembly of industrial buildings according to 9 building systems.

Each system is made of prefabricated steel components who fit together as a giant meccano set. These cold profiled components are made of galvanised High Strength Steel. Cold profiled steel combines an exceptional strength with an optimized use of materials.

Since 1978 Frisomat is continuously innovating cold profiled steel as the structure for its industrial buildings. Thanks to the relative low weight export is possible anywhere in the world. Export generates 80% of Frisomat’s turnover.

Meanwhile, Frisomat has 14 branches across Europe and Africa, and 2 production plants (Belgium and Romania). The different building systems are designed and developed in house and 400 employees are set to work.
