Houston AutoRama Revs Up For Thanksgiving Weekend With Cool Cars And Hot Competition

51st Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts AutoRama To Host Four Days of Feature Cars, Celebrities and Fun

Nov. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- HOUSTON – Nov. 23, 2010 – The annual O’Reilly Auto Parts AutoRama® will celebrate its 51st anniversary in Houston’s downtown district this week, from Nov. 25 – 28.  The Thanksgiving weekend AutoRama is one of the largest and longest running indoor automotive shows in the U.S. and will host hundreds of hot rods and muscle cars, exhibits, automotive shows, burn out competitions and notable celebrity appearances at the George R. Brown Convention Center at 1001 Avenida De Las Americas.  The O’Reilly AutoRama is sanctioned by the International Show Car Association (ISCA) and part of the Summit Racing Show Car Series.

“The Houston Autorama will be an action-packed four days,” said, Bob Larivee Jr., CEO of Championship Auto Shows Inc.  “Visitors will witness some of the coolest custom cars, trucks and motorcycles from around the country, while our celebrity list will attract fans of all ages.  From Drag City USA’s vintage rides to live entertainment by Rockabilly Bands, we’ll have something for everyone.”

The show schedule is as follows:
•   Thursday, Nov. 25   3 p.m. - 9 p.m.
•   Friday, Nov. 26           10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
•   Saturday, Nov. 27   10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
•   Sunday, Nov. 28           11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
   
The AutoRama’s new “Snake Pit” will offer enthusiasts a glimpse of some of the best vintage Shelby Cobras and Mustangs in the world.  Feature cars will highlight the event, including Goodguys Hot Rod of the Year, a 1928 Ford.  Dennis Li’l Daddy Roth’s “Streetnik Bandit” will make its first public appearance in Houston.  And from the craftsmen at Galpin Auto Sports, the radical concept car, “Scythe,” will be showcased.

Other vehicles available for viewing pleasure include the “AutoRama ‘Ol Skool Rodz” presented by Outcasts Car Club, which consists of 120 traditional hot rods reflecting the trends and styles of car builders in the 1950s and ‘60s.  Drag City USA will have a collection of the most storied 1960s vintage dragsters showcased during the four action-packed days as well.  

“Guests will not only be able to check out cool rides up close, but cheer on their favorite vehicle or driver during the Burn Out contest, ISCA championship finals or the Summit Racing Show Car Series Championship Finals,” noted Larivee Jr.  “The AutoRama Action Arena will leave spectators on the edge of their seats.”

The Houston event will wrap up the AutoRama competition season this weekend.  Winners who have qualified throughout the year at other AutoRama shows across the country will be entered into the championship.  International Show Car Association judges will vote on the best of each division during this weekend.  Categories range from Outstanding Club Display to Outstanding Sports and Outstanding Custom.  

Celebrities attending the Houston AutoRama include Alex Debogorski from History Channel’s Ice Road Truckers; Kevin Tetz from Spike TV’s Trucks!; MTV reality-show Jersey Shore’s Jenni “JWOWW” Farley; Debby Ryan, also known as “Bailey” from the Suite Life of Zack & Cody and co-host of American Pickers, Frank Fritz.  Pin-up model Heidi Van Horne and the Houston Roller Derby Girls are also scheduled to attend.

To purchase tickets ahead of time, visit participating O’Reilly Auto Parts stores in the Houston area or purchase tickets the day of at the gates.  Children five years old and under will be admitted for free.
