Trapped Deer Rescued by Montville Township ACOs

Almost another victim of the housing crisis, a deer had fallen into the basement of a partially constructed Montville Home.

Nov. 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Trapped in a 10 foot deep pit with no way out, the deer frantically circled the basement. Bones of another animal were a sign that this was not the first animal that was trapped,

On October 29, a frantic call was made by a resident to the Montville Police, who forwarded the call to the Montville Animal Shelter. Gail Strumph & Sandy Burkhart, Montville ACOs,  with the help of some of the DPW staff,  constructed a ramp and tried to coax the deer toward it and freedom. When those efforts failed, the deer was tranquilized, carefully wrapped in a sling and lifted to safety using a rope and 'man power'.

The doe was then transported to a safe place, away from the construction site. The ACOs waited for the effectiveness of the sedative to wear off and the young deer to get back on her feet and trot off unharmed.  Thanks to their efforts, this beautiful creature did not become another casualty of this pit.
