Nov. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Writing for the web comes with its own challenges. It is a bit different from writing offline. There are few things to be kept in mind while writing for the web.

Convey the information-quickly: Web writing is more about getting to the point quickly. As attention span of the readers on web is comparatively lesser than offline readers reading offline material, the best bet to hold their attention is to give what they want , quickly.

Put your conclusion out there in the front: You get little time and space to build up your story. Your visitors don’t want to go through paragraphs and paragraphs to get to the message. Don’t make your visitors wade through a lot of text to get to what they need. Write your conclusion up front.

Keep the Communication Simple: Web is not the place for your articulate phrases and linguistic acrobat. Most online writers don’t care about the right grammar as long as they get the information they need. It is better to avoid metaphors, foreign phrases, and scientific terms unless they are absolutely needed in your web copy. Avoid jargon too.

Keep it relevant: Don’t go on tangents. Don’t take your readers for granted. Explain. Anticipate the questions people may have. Examine and keep the content relevant to the context for the reader’s convenience. You don’t want to confuse them.

Keep them engaged: Different people read differently. Some scan to find areas of interest. Some just scan the subheads to get the gist. Some go for keywords and phrases. Some read just to get information. Have something for everybody.

Understand the coordinates: When writing web copy, it helps a lot to understand how your text will be used and where it is positioned in relation to other content elements. That means good writers will also understand the structure of the site on which they are working – the information architecture.

Avoid making things too granular : “Granularity” means the extent to which information is spread across multiple web pages. Make sure that information that is needed simultaneously appears on the same page – all of it together as far as possible.

Have a goal: Before writing ask yourself the purpose of writing. What is your main message ? Who is your reader? What kind of response are you looking for ? Answering these questions will help you create content you would like to include in your portfolio.

If you keep all these tips in mind while developing your copy, as our content developers at Vistas Ad do, your content will be just what you and your client expect it to be- to the point, concise, informative and relevant. For getting more tips on Creative Writings or Content Development for your website, call on us at http://www.vistasadindia.com
