Background 
The Portland Alliance has been speaking truth to power since 1981.  The Alliance provides a voice and forum for working families, environmentalists, trade unionists, social justice activists, and everyday people too often shut out or ignored.  The Alliance has broken stories missed by the mainstream press. In 2000, the paper published Portland Police Chief Mark Kroeker's ties with homophobic Christian groups and placed the controversial chief under greater public scrutiny.  This led to a national award for investigative journalism.

We will celebrate Joe Hill, labor activist, songwriter, and member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW, also known as the Wobblies) who was executed on a bogus murder charge by the state of Utah in 1915.   Besides music, there will be tabling opportunities, free copies of the paper, and historic photos.
