Nov. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- The history of the Six Flags theme park dates back to 1971, when it opened as Magic Mountain and it wasn't until 1979 that it was purchased by Six Flags and garnered the company name. The park had opened with over 30 attractions, many of which were done by the same people who had built attractions at Disneyland. The first rides at the theme park were the Sky tower (this was the very first attraction at the park), the carousel, Goldrusher (the first roller coaster at the park), revolution, Colossus (the world's largest dual track wooden coaster), Ninja and Viper (world's largest and tallest looping steel coaster.)  These rides were opened in the first few decades of the park and are still around to this day, they are rides that have stood the test of time and are still popular attractions at the park.

Most of the attractions of this park are themed around various things.  There are a few rides that are themed after DC comic book and Looney toon characters such as Batman and Yosemite Sam.  There is also a ride that is themed around the recent Terminator Salvation film and pre ride entertainment features specially made clips from character of the film.

One of the main popular rides is X².  This is the world's first 4th Dimension roller coaster.  A 4D roller coaster.  By its fans it is called X-two by the park maintains that the name of the ride is X squared or Xtreme to the Second Power.  It is very difficult to describe the feeling of this ride as not only is it a unique experience but it practically changes the conception of a roller coaster.  There are times you will be looking down when you would usually be looking up.  Also add to the fact there are other elements such as fireballs and mist which is why some call it a 5th dimensional roller coaster

Another popular ride is the Japanese themed Tatsu, it is a steel flying roller coaster.  This is the world's tallest, fastest and longest flying coaster so you can see why this is such a popular ride among many.  It gives you the felling that you are flying as it is a unique coaster.  These two rides are considered the signature rides of the park and are ones that most will go to thus meaning they will have the longest wait times but that isn't to say that all is lost as there are many other ride that are just as enjoyable as these two.

For those who want to take away something to remember your day there are loads of merchandise that will cater to your wants.  If you want to remember a ride you have been on then there is nothing better than an on-ride photo which will show you your on ride experience in a snap take note sometimes you will see yourself in a different light as some photos might show you looking like an alien or a deer stuck in the headlights.  But there are some enthusiasts who actually know where the camera is and look out for it so they can strike a pose, so maybe if your up to it try to find out where the camera is so you can take home a picture that is desirable.

Then there are the other things that you can find at other parks such as key rings, fridge magnets, clothes etc.  But one unique item of merchandise that is unique and that is the six flag capes.  These are capes that either element the super heroes such as the comic book characters that have rides like Batman and Superman or other characters. You would think that only kids would go for these but you'd be wrong to think that as these are very popular with people of all ages so much so that on some days the park sells out of the days stock, so it is recommended that if you see one you pick one up as you might regret it especially as you will see other people showing it off in front of your eyes.

They have various different ones for you to purchase from a plain cape that costs $5, a double sided one that has two different characters insignias on them for example Superman and Bizarro or Batman and Joker. And they also have ones that light up with a special switch.  If the capes sell out then there's a tip in order to get one, play one of the many amusement style games that you can find all over the park.  The games cost $5 (the same price as a basic cape) and whether you win or lose you will get a cape of your choice.  This is actually the best way to get a cape as not only do you get to play a fun game but you also stand a chance of winning a prize.

One of the best time to go Magic Mountain is around Halloween, as this is a time when the park is open til late and also the park makes an extra effort to entertain.  They have special Halloween only mazes where they have people dress up in costumes trying to scare, they do a pretty good job as they are dedicated to their craft and the costumes look very good.  Other things they do is put on performances and shows that tie in to Halloween that you won't see during normal periods of the year.  Also you will be able to go ion the rides in the dark which is a different experience all together, also add to the fat that it is open til late you will be able to go on all the rides you want to go on.

Six Flags have recently announced that there will be new attractions next year (2011) which will make it the theme park with the most roller coasters in the world.  The number will rise up to 18 with one of them being a new roller coaster which will be themed after the Green Lantern and it will be another 4D roller coaster while the others will be ones that have been updated such as the Superman: Escape from Krypton.  With this revelation it won't be no surprise to see an influx of people from all over the world going staying at a near by Los Angeles rental just to sample all these rides.
